Are all fire blankets of the same quality?

Overview:Not all fire blankets are the same. We evaluate quality based on fiberglass fabric type, thickness, weight, and surface smoothness.

Are all fire blankets of the same quality? The answer is, of course, no. Currently, the most popular type of fire blanket is the fiberglass fabric fire blanket, which is also the most suitable type for fire extinguishing. From small 1m by 1m household kitchen fire blankets to large 6m by 8m car fire blankets, and even larger ones, the main material used is fiberglass fabric.

If they all use fiberglass fabric, why do the qualities differ? The reason is simple: there are varying qualities of fiberglass fabric. We can evaluate them based on the following criteria:

Types of Fiberglass Fabric: Fiberglass fabric used for making fire blankets comes in C-Glass and E-Glass types. Currently, the better fire blankets use E-Glass grade fiberglass fabric.

Thickness and Weight of the Fire Blanket: While not always true that thicker is better, relatively thicker fire blankets have a stronger oxygen-blocking ability and more effective fire-extinguishing performance. It is recommended to use fire blankets with a thickness of more than 0.43mm and a weight greater than 300g per square meter. Of course, in special places where the requirements are not high, a fiberglass fabric fire blanket weighing about 280g per square meter can be used.

Surface of the Fire Blanket: Some fiberglass fabrics can cause obvious skin irritation due to a higher proportion of broken glass fibers. High-quality fire blankets have a smooth surface and will not irritate the skin even without gloves.
